From the very inception of Gods Unchained by Immutable (launched in November 9, 2018, one of the first blockchain TCGs to gain significant traction), Game Art Brain has been a deeply integrated partner starting our work on June 13, 2018 shortly before the launch. Our contributions spanned a wide range of visual elements, including the creation of over 150 distinctive card illustrations that brought powerful deities, mythical creatures, and potent spells to life. Our artists meticulously crafted these 2D illustrations to capture the individual character and lore behind each card, aiming for visually striking imagery that not only looked impressive but also clearly communicated the card’s attributes and strategic role within the game. Among these was the unique titan card ‘Hyperion,’ which briefly became the world’s most valuable TCG card during its auction in 2019, fetching 137.8 Ether ($62,000 USD at the time), a testament to its compelling artwork.
Beyond the cards, Game Art Brain also developed a series of distinctive 3D trinkets, cosmetic items that allowed players to personalize their side of the game board with unique visual flair. Furthermore, we significantly contributed to the game’s aesthetic by designing numerous unique card backs, adding another layer of collectibility and personalization for players. Recognizing the importance of a smooth user experience, our team also implemented key UI improvements to enhance clarity and ease of navigation within Gods Unchained. To help boost the game’s visibility and attract players, Game Art Brain also created impactful marketing art, often large in scale and with an epic feel, designed to capture the grandeur of the Gods Unchained universe. Furthermore, we contributed to the game’s strategic communication by designing the roadmap, aiming to ensure transparency and include players in the game’s vision. Working on this project from its early stages was a blast, fostering a deeply collaborative and trustful relationship with Immutable. We felt like an integral part of the team throughout the years.
While Gods Unchained continues to evolve, the pace of new art integrations has slowed due to overall shifts in the crypto market and a focus on smaller card sets with reduced budgets. Sadly, this has meant a natural conclusion to our long-standing and deeply integrated work on the project. Despite this, we are incredibly proud of our extensive contributions to Gods Unchained and the opportunity to have been a key artistic partner from its groundbreaking beginnings.
